Alexandra Pitts
LSW | Licensed Social Worker (In Supervision toward Clinical Licensure)
Accepting Virtual & In-person appointments in Northern Liberties.
As a clinician with a Master’s in Social Work, I operate from a “person-in-environment” perspective, where each individual situation is considered in the context of family of origin, racial, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual identities. I bring not only my professional experience, but also my personal experience as an Asian American woman to connect with my clients and understand their experiences. Dealing with your mental health can feel scary and unknown- my goal is to walk alongside you in this journey to better understand yourself and develop the skills you need to feel more comfortable in your own mind. I believe the most important thing in a therapeutic relationship is the connection that we foster together. You can expect me to be warm, curious, compassionate, logical, and humorous.
I offer psychotherapy to adults of all ages and work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma (childhood, complex, identity-based, intergenerational), interpersonal relationship struggles, life transitions, history of intimate partner violence, socioeconomic stress, feelings of marginalization, and difficulty with mental health in the Asian American community and other communities of color.
My approach to therapy is collaborative and eclectic, with trauma-informed care and anti-racist framework at the foundation of my work. I am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and draw from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamics, Mindfulness-Based Practices, and Cultural-Relational Therapy as well.
I know these acronyms can be overwhelming and not make any sense. At the core of my work, I focus on how we show up to our therapy sessions, what your priorities are, how we can work to reach your goals, and acknowledging and processing the systemic barriers that are impacting your mental health. I believe it is essential to incorporate clients’ cultural, spiritual, and personal practices into the therapeutic process. As a multi-racial woman, I provide affirming care to members of the BIPOC community, LGBTQ+ community, and individuals navigating questions of identity, marginalization, and internalized oppression.
I accept Aetna & Cigna insurances.
