Melrose (Rosie) Patton

LPC | Licensed Professional Counselor

Offering In-Person therapy in Society Hill & Fishtown locations, and telehealth.

I accept Aetna, Cigna, Highmark, Quest, & United/Optum insurances.

I recognize that coming to therapy can feel like a big decision. I understand that most of the time we come to therapy with a focus in mind, but can also allow that focus to grow and change. I value taking the time to build a strong relationship with my clients that supports them in feeling like they are a leader in their own treatment.

My therapeutic approach is to support my clients with the goals they want to set for themselves. I hold space for client led sessions, as well as serving as a guide to support you to achieving your goals. My goal is to create a space of safety to build a therapeutic relationship that allows for openness, understanding, trust and empathy, as the most effective clinical work happens when you feel safe.

My areas of interest include: anxiety: particularly around life transitions, work/school stress, social anxiety, relational attachment anxiety, co-occurring with depression and PTSD, and anxiety surrounding body image and self-esteem. I use the Health At Every Size (HAES) approach towards addressing body and self-esteem concerns. I also enjoy working with clients who are adopted; working with clients who identify as LGBTQIA;  and utilizing exposure based interventions. I have also completed training surrounding grief, and racial trauma informed treatment both of which are clinical areas of interest for me. The theories I use most often in my work include: CBT examining thoughts, feelings, and behaviors;  DBT which incorporates mindfulness  and communication based work;  trauma informed work;  ACT focusing on accepting and committing to healing; person centered work; Non violent communication work (NVC) which assists in improving communication, empathy, and assertiveness in relationships; and Motivational Interviewing to help with goal accomplishment.

About me:  I grew up surrounded by ethnic, gender, and religious diversity.  I come from a family with two mothers, and identify as an adoptee.  I value working with folx of all backgrounds and look forward to supporting you in your therapy journey.
