Sojourner Gleeson

LSW | Licensed Social Worker (In supervision toward clinical licensure)

The heart of my practice is in creating a therapeutic space where individuals, relationships, and families can explore the corners of their emotions and experiences, navigate life’s challenges, and cultivate meaningful connections. In my approach, I incorporate collaboration, introspection, humor, and creativity to empower my clients to lead fulfilling and purposeful lives.

In my practice, I integrate principles from family systems therapy, attachment theory, and psychodynamic practices to tailor therapeutic interventions that address the unique needs of each client. I believe in the interconnectedness of individuals within their familial, social, and cultural contexts, emphasizing the importance of understanding how these systems influence one’s psychological well-being.

Specialization and Experience:

I work with clients of all ages, from children to older adults, addressing a wide range of issues and themes such as:

Individual concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity development

Relationship issues including communication difficulties, conflict resolution, trust and intimacy, and roles and responsibilities

Family dynamics such as parenting challenges, intergenerational conflicts, and transitions

Intercultural, interracial, and interreligious relationships and families, including families impacted by immigration

Identity development, emotions, and neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, etc.)

Parent-child relationships

Personal care tasks and caregiving

I understand the significance of religious and spiritual beliefs in shaping individuals’ identities, relationships, sense of self and purpose, and coping mechanisms. In my practice, I respect and integrate discussions about faith and spirituality when needed, recognizing their impact on mental health and well-being.

I am passionate about nurturing and strengthening family and friend relationships within my therapeutic practice. I believe in the transformative power of relational connections and am dedicated to empowering my clients to cultivate and nurture these vital relationships in their lives. I include therapeutic techniques such as family genograms and psychodynamic exploration to encourage exploration of family patterns and dynamics.

I understand the importance of being present and engaged in service, meaningful work, and relationships. I help my clients develop approaches to mindfulness, communication, and self-care to manage stress, enhance focus, and cultivate a greater sense of presence in their daily lives. By nurturing a deeper connection to themselves and others, my clients are empowered to approach their service, work, and relationships with intentionality, authenticity, and purpose.

I am dedicated to ongoing professional development, staying abreast of the latest research, and cultivating a practice that is culturally competent, anti-racist, anti-ableist, and LGBTQIA+ affirming. I deeply value diversity, inclusivity, and accountability and strive to create a space where clients of all backgrounds feel respected, understood, and valued.

I accept Aetna, Cigna, United/Optum, & Highmark insurances.
